MailChimp Email RSS List Setup

How are your readers keeping up with your blog? Do you know? Do you care? YES!

Providing your readers with choices to keep up with your latest blog content is not only the nice thing to do, it is essential if you want to grow your readership. Let’s think about this for a minute…

You create a blog and you write great content. Now, you want someone to read your words, don’t you? So, you start spreading your wings…you comment on other blogs, join social networking circles, and get your blog name out there. Readers start to come, they leave awesome comments. Great, right? Well, yes…but how do you keep those readers coming back? How do you make sure your readers are notified when you post amazing new words on your blog?

Do you rely on them to bookmark your site and return every day to see your words of wisdom? NO!

YOU OFFER SUBSCRIPTION CHOICES TO YOUR READERS!

Allowing your readers to subscribe to your blog posts allows them to be notified of your amazing new content. There are two main methods to allow your blog readers to subscribe to your content – RSS and Email. RSS is a “feed” that is automatically feed into a “feed reader”. There are many feed reader choices out there, but probably the most familiar is Google Reader.

Feedburner is Google’s free feedburner service and is widely used by bloggers. It’s free, simple, and provides everything a blogger needs to send their blog content to their reader’s feed readers.

Many bloggers make the mistake of not providing email subscriptions to their readers. Many readers do not like RSS feeds and forget to come to your blog to read; they rely on email. I won’t go further into the discussion of RSS vs. email, but I will strongly recommend you provide both options to your readers and let them decide which one they want.

Many bloggers use Feedburner for RSS AND email subscriptions to their blog posts. Feedburner is an excellent free service. However, there is a much better alternative to provide for your email subscribers…MailChimp. MailChimp is also free (if you have less than 2,000 subscribers and send less than 12,000 emails/month) and can be customized with the look and feel of your blog providing consistent branding for the signup form, the email itself, and even the Thank You for Subscribing page. The daily email (it sends daily IF you post on your blog that day) can have links to your social media profiles increase your social media following. Advertisements can be added as well as links to your blog, your blog hop, or anything you choose. The possibilities are endless!
